Top Home Remedies to Keep Migraines at Bay
Migraine, the typical headache that can bring the normal life of the victim to a standstill, still does not have any proven cure. The patient in the course of time has to resort to a lot of self-help measures like observing your body, nature of the trigger and drawing a pattern of dos and don’ts. Listed below are a few home remedies that can help with reducing your migraine.
Steam Inhalation
If your migraine was triggered by a blocked sinus, a good deal of steam inhalation will help release the blockage. You can add the liquid from Karvol capsules to boiling water, cover your head with a sheet and inhale the steam. Use a dry towel to wipe the perspiration. People with sensitive nasal tissues like nose bleeding should avoid this as it may trigger a nasal bleed, which is the last thing you would want.
Dry Towel Fomentation
It is important to relieve the phlegm that has gotten solidified in your nodes. A hot towel fomentation on the top of your head, followed by around the entire head and ending on the face will be very warm and will help relieve your migraine pain. Heat a thick pan on the stove or an induction, rub the towel (preferably a thick one, so that it can hold heat for a longer time) on the heated pan and place it on your head. (Beware different parts of the body have different sensitivity to heat. Alter the level of heat accordingly). Hold the towel in a safe manner so that you don’t burn your hands. This is a better alternative for people with a sensitive nasal passage.
Buck Wheat Fomentation
Buckwheat holds heat for a long time. Dry fry the same in a pan. Convert it into a cloth (not very thick). Pull up the area of the towel around it and place a band. The buckwheat inside the towel will look like a ball. Use this for your fomentation. The cloth touches the head and the wheat is inside. When the heat reduces, you can place the same tied cloth on a hot pan. The wheat will absorb the heat and the same can be transcended to your head and face; but you will need to watch the temperature before you put it on your face, as wheat tends to hold a lot of heat.) If you do not have buckwheat, you can alter it with any millet. Millets also tend to hold heat longer.
Alcohol
Strangely, this is a home remedy for migraines. Liquor can trigger a headache, but this should not be confused with a migraine. The hangover pain is different from that of a migraine. But those prone to migraines are all likely to get their pain triggered with a higher quantity of alcohol consumption. It may not be true that alcohol always induces a migraine. Consumption in humble measures may not harm you. All rules applicable to food apply to alcohol as well. You need to analyze your trigger points in terms of the type of liquor and quantity. A calm drink may not hurt. But followed by dancing may be a sure trigger. Self-analysis helps you have your regular consumption and not be in pain.
