Fruit Juice
Even when made with fresh fruit, fruit juice is more likely to lead to a spike in sugar than whole fruit. The process of removing fruit juice breaks down fiber, as a result of providing less fiber. Also, premade fruit juice contain high quantities of sugar. Therefore, it is best to avoid fruit juice if you have type 2 diabetes.
Salt
People with high blood pressure and diabetes should be away from sodium or salt. Canned and pickled vegetables along with other packaged food contain added sodium that is harmful to diabetic patients.
Sugars
This one comes as no surprise. Sweets, sugary foods and many desserts are mostly made of sugar and carbohydrates. They contain no nutritional value, but it can lead to a rise in blood glucose. Sugar can also be a factor for weight gain and risk of heart disease or stroke. Pizza dough, doughnuts, baked goods, sauces, condiments, table sugar, agave nectar, sweeteners, sodas, fruit-flavored yogurts, sweetened iced tea, lemonade, coffee drinks, chocolate drinks, etc. Beer, sweet mixers, alcoholic fruit drinks and dessert wines also contain carbohydrates and added sugars.
Fat
Fat can provide essential fatty acids such as omega-3 and help the body absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K. Unsaturated fats instead of saturated fat and trans fat can lower the risk of heart disease and reduce cholesterol. Butter, lard, palm oils, potato chips, battered food, full-fat mayonnaise, fries, and cream-based dips should be avoided.
Fruit Salads
Whole fruits in a fruit salad are usually healthier than the premade ones. The premade ones may contain added sugar or syrup. It is best to avoid dried fruit with added sugar, canned fruit with sugar syrup, sweetened applesauce, jam, jelly, persevered food with sugars, fruit drinks, fruit juices, canned vegetables with sodium, pickles with sugar and salt.
